The unusual meeting was conducted by teleconference in accordance with Gov. Greg Abbott’s temporary suspension of open meetings laws issued March 16.

Garden Club holds meeting

During the Iowa Park Garden Club’s meeting recently at the RAC, Texas Master Gardener Barbara Mannen presented a program entitled “Did you know?”

“During the program she gave tips on growing vegetables from root scraps, composting and working both into your vegetable or flower garden. She showed members several plants that were growing from vegetable cuttings, as well as three varieties of Sedum.

Also during the meeting club members were reminded they would be delivering Meals on Wheels March 16 through 20.

Frontier Days cancelled due to COVID-19

Frontier Days planner Chris De La Garza announced last week due to COVID-19 the event this year planned for April 25 has been cancelled.

“I hate having to do this, but feel we really don’t have a choice at this time,” she said.

38 cases of COVID-19 in Wichita County

As of noon Wednesday this week, The Wichita County Health Unit is reporting 38 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in the county, up from 9 cases reported by Wednesday a week ago.

In the last week, the health unit has determined that more than one case is from community spread, and not travel-related as the previous cases had been.

Thus far in Wichita County, a total of 818 people have been tested for COVID-19, with 437 negative tests reported, and 343 still pending as of presstime.

Wichita County under shelter-inplace orders

Following Iowa Park Mayor Ray Schultz’s Disaster Declaration last week, Sunday evening Wichita County Judge Woody Gossum issued a Wichita County Disaster Declaration.

The order places the county and all the incorporated cities inside the county, except Wichita Falls, under a shelter in place order. Wichita Falls Mayor and City Council issued an shelter in place last week.

The order took effect Monday at midnight.
