After receiving a tip of a wanted subject being at a residence in the 500 block of West Magnolia at 2:46 a.m. Sunday Michael Thomas White, 40, was taken into custody. When officers and Wichita County deputies arrived at the residence and were allowed inside, White was located hiding in a closet. He taken into custody on six Wichita County warrants, security off bond/possession of controlled substance over one gram/under four grams, $30,000 bond; surety off bond possession of child pornography, $15,000; surety off bond for possession of controlled substance under one gram, $10,000; surety off bond possession of controlled substance under one gram, $5,000 bond; surety off bond possession of control substance under 28 grams, $1,000; and violation of protective order, $1,500 bond. Transported to Wichita County jail.

Only two positive COVID-19 cases reported this week

Even with increased testing of COVID-19 here due to Gov. Greg Abbott’s order to test residents and staff at longterm healthcare facilities, only two new positive cases were reported in Wichita County county in the past week.

UIL to allow summer workouts for athletics, bands with restrictions

Greg Abbott’s release last Monday of plans to further reopen Texas businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Texas University Interscholastic League (UIL) on Friday released requirements and guidelines for schools to begin limited summer strength and condition and marching band practices starting Monday, June 8.

The Iowa Park City Council met in special session last Thursday and approved a request from the Iowa Park CISD for a waiver of the city’s fireworks ordinance for the graduation ceremony on June 5.

Six new cases of COVID-19 in Wichita County

Even with six new positive cases of COVID-19 in Wichita County in the past week, the number of those still active is 19, all recovering at home as of Tuesday evening.

Wichita County had a 0-5 year old who tested positive this week, a first in the county.

The new cases brought the total number of cases reported in the county since March 18 to 82. Of those, 61 have recovered and two diagnosed with the virus died.

Swimming pool opens Saturday

The Iowa Park Municipal Swimming Pool is scheduled to open Saturday. However, due to Governor Abbott’s executive order relating to the expanded opening of Texas in response to the COVID-19 disaster, the swimming pool capacity will be limited to 80 swimmers, at least through June 3.

The spray park will remain closed until at least June 3.

The order, filed on Monday, says people should maintain necessary precautions to reduce the transmission of COVID-19 and to minimize in-person contact with people who are not in the same household.

After almost nine years, Dub and Kelly Ewing understands why they felt they needed a farm.

Approximately nine years ago the Ewings decided they wanted to sell their home and move to the country where they could have farm animals. But, selling their home apparently wasn’t in God’s plan because they had tried unsuccessfully three different times to sell.

“God placed a desire for a farm on our heart so we tried to sell our home and buy a house with acreage three different times. But that wasn’t his plan,” said Kelly.
