Ok, it’s the first week of May in 2021. The goat rodeo in Austin is still going strong, but the big news from the Texas Legislature seems to be dealing with ultra conservative issues like transgender involvement in sports (I’m not aware of any issue locally), “constitutional” carry of firearms (I don’t know a law officer that is for it), bills meant to add further restrictions on voting (I’m still waiting on ways for Americans to cast a vote easily and fairly), and advancing bills to shield oil and gas from climate initiatives (tying $46 billion in the Texas Permanent School Fund, $165 billion in Teacher Retirement System of Texas, and $31 billion in Texas Municipal Retirement System funds with potential boycotts of companies that divest or “boycott” fossil fuel companies in an effort to curb carbon emissions that contribute to climate change (and better odds for success could be found at a craps table).
