Three teams from Iowa Park High School participated in the Vex Robotics State Tournament on April 10th in Redwater Texas. The IPHS teams all made the alliance selections, which is the finals bracket for the tournament. The teams comprised of Emalea Gray, Austin Bish, and Sierra Jackson and alliance partner made up of Daniel McIlroy, Alex Casey, and Josh Williamson made it to the quarterfinal round before being eliminated. “These teams have worked hard all year to make it to the state competition and have won many awards,” said IPHS Math/Robotics teacher Joanne Hawkins. Starting Saturday, Texans with phone numbers in the 254, 361, 409, 806, 830, 915 and 940 area codes should get in the habit of dialing 10-digits (area code + telephone number) for all local calls.

Upcoming street projects approved by council Monday

A list of street projects for the upcoming paving season was approved by the city council Monday night. Public Works Director David Sherrill said the primary project for the year will be the 1200 block of Wall St. that was damaged by the installation of the Garden Valley force main.

Chamber gearing up for ParkFest

Iowa Park Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for their annual Parkfest to be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 8, at Gordon Lake. A car show will be held in conjunction with Parkfest. Registration will be from 8 to 9 a.m. and the show will end at 1 p.m. with awards given out at 1:30 p.m.

Ag Show Barn approved

At their regular meeting Thursday night, the Iowa Park school board voted to proceed in negotiations with Cunningham/Clark Construction for construction of a new Ag. show barn, at a cost of $1,770,000.
