Wendy Jean Godfrey Chandler
Wendy Jean Godfrey Chandler of Iowa Park, Texas passed away on August 27,2021, at age 66.
Wendy grew up in Phoenix, Az. At 19, fiercely independent, she fell in love with the boy she had known since she was 12 years old and off they went. A brief stop in Georgia, they married, and settled in Iowa Park, Texas where she remained for the rest of her life.
It didn’t take Wendy long to establish deep Texas roots. She was most proud of her acquired Texas drawl and of finding a place that suited her fun, freewheeling, say it like it is personality. A barbeque, drinks and a good laugh around the fire pit with family and friends was her idea of bliss. A close second was her love of all things Christmas. Having children, grandchildren, and Phoenix sisters to share her glee only added to the magical festivities she cherished so much.
Wendy was most proud of being a mother to Maxx and Aimee and Nana to Hunter, Hadleigh, Kylie and Isabel. She considered it her biggest accomplishment and it filled her heart profoundly. But she was also a second mom to so many; her kid’s friends, neighborhood kids or people she worked with. Tough love or a big hug was her way.
She worked 20 year at Walmart and was proud of reaching that milestone before she retired. Co-workers and customers alike embraced her kindness and friendly spirit.
Her gift to all was the immense love she had for us. Her tattoo “freebird” was her mantra and now she soars free. We love you Wendy.
She is survived by her children: Maxx Chandler ( Jess Cruz), Aimee Brantley (Caleb Brantley), Grandchildren: Hunter Chandler, Hadleigh Brantley, Kylie Brantley, Isabel Brantley and her former husband Charles Ray Chandler. Siblings: Joel Godfrey (Catherine Barraclough), Lou Anne Ross (Bill Ross) and Rae Ann Godfrey. Nephew: Sean Godfrey and Niece: Kristen Godfrey Erickson. She is predeceased by her parents: Arwyn and Ruth Godfrey and brother Marc Godfrey.
We would like to especially thank Kevin and Teresa Ketchersid for their tender loving care of Wendy these past few years and support to her children and family. We are grateful.
It was Wendy’s wish that she have no funeral but instead have A Celebration of her Life.
