Stephen Wayne Routh
Stephen Wayne Routh passed from this old world to his heavenly home on August 9, 2021. Steve was born October 26, 1961 in Wichita County. He was Kamay, Texas born and raised and proud of it.
If you ask anyone, Steve would have been described as a good ole boy. He had a dry, quick wit that made you shake your head and chuckle, usually because it bordered on being rude and politically incorrect, but that was just Steve.
On December 12, 1987, Steve married the love of his life, Trudy Pruett, and shortly after they adopted their first child, a chow breed they named Toot. Steve’s greatest wish in all the world though was to have a son and after many years, his dream came true the day Ryan was born. His son was his pride and joy. There was never a prouder dad than Steve was on that day.
There were so many parts of Steve, the kind-hearted man who took care of his Dad and his father-in-law, the gruff mountain man Santa that rarely smiled behind that crazy beard, the marathon runner (yeah, that’s really true), the Amway salesman, the businessman, the junk lover. All of them were Steve. He was so tight he squeaked when he walked. He loved the Dallas Cowboys, chocolate pie, Nolan Ryan, antiques, guns, Ebay, his family, and anything that was free. Though he never got to write his book, “If It’s Free, It’s for Steve” we will always think of Steve when we pass a garage sale or see anything for free. He was the best nickname giver. He always had that walking stick.
He rarely said the actual words “I Love You” but showed it consistently to his family. Steve was always there. He was rarely on time to any holiday event, but he was there eventually for all the major family milestones, from birthdays and weddings to death beds. He loved our family history. If you wanted to know anything about our family, you just had to ask Steve. He got his love for “bling” from his momma. We all have so many cherished memories of Steve, and it would be hard for any of us to pick a favorite. Steve was a friend to all and so greatly loved. Steve lived his life as a good ole’ Texas boy. He shot straight and didn’t pull any punches. On Thursday, August 5, Steve made his eternal reward secure while praying on the phone with his sister and joined the angel band with his juice harp on Sunday, August 8, 2021.
