Percy Jefferson Travis, 96, passed away Monday, March 28.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. today at the pavilion at Highland Cemetery.

Percy was born May 20, 1925, in Long Beach, MS., to Phillip and Ida Travis He attended school in Alabama and entered the service in 1943. He served with the Navy Seabees in the Pacific during World War II. After the war, he served one tour in the Army Medical Core and then enlisted with the Air Force where he retired in 1965 after serving 21 years. He was stationed at Sheppard AFB where he met and married Winnie Faye Sutton on Jan. 12, 1949, in Henrietta. They lived in California, Kansas, and the Azores Island. He returned to Sheppard AFB in 1963, where he was until he retired. He was licensed in the Southern Baptist denomination as a pastor. He was ordained while serving as Pastor of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. He then went on to serve as pastor at Emmanuel Baptist Church and Sunnyside Baptist Church, both in Wichita Falls. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

He enjoyed traveling after retirement. He was a member of Good Sam RV Club, Military RV camping group, and Wichita Falls RV Club. He was the chaplain while a member of these camping groups.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years; parents; brothers, Jack and James Travis; sisters, Irene Gibson, and Deda Hosford.

Survivors include his brother, Leo Travis; children, Phillip Travis of Hurst, Janet Smith and Patricia Lyles, both of Iowa Park, and Bruce Travis of Wichita Falls; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
