Lee Leonard Wood
Lee Leonard Wood, Jr., 73, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 6.
Graveside service were held Tuesday at the Pavilion in Burkburnett Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Ronnie Lawson, officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home in Burkburnett.
A son of the late Lee L. Wood Sr. and Juanita Graham Wood, Lee was born on Oct. 4, 1947, in Winnfield, LA. He served in the United States Air Force during Vietnam, and retired as a Staff Sergeant. He also served in the United States Coast Guard Reserves and was activated during Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He retired in 1995 from the Coast Guard Reserves with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. On July 25, 1969, he married Brenda, while stationed at Barksdale AFB in Bossier City, LA. He was a graduate of Northwestern State University receiving a BA Degree in 1974. He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding his bicycle. He was a triathlete when he was younger, but focused more on cycling once he moved to Texas. He rode in the HHH approximately 25 times. He was an active member of Thornberry Baptist Church and participated in a Tuesday night Men’s Bible Study in Wichita Falls. In 1988, he took a position at Howmet Corporation in Wichita Falls and worked there until he retired in 2004 as Manager of Human Resources. After that, he began a second career in the moving and storage industry working for numerous companies, as both an employee and contractor until his death.
Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Wood.
Survivors include three sons, Lenny Wood of Midland, Graham Wood of Iowa Park, and Ben Wood of Lubbock; his brother, Wayne Wood of McKinney; and 12 grandchildren.
