Doyle Underwood

Doyle Underwood, 97, died Sunday, Aug. 15, 2021 in Wichita Falls.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Aug. 19, at Bethel Baptist Church in Nocona with Rev. Patrick Hill officiating.

Interment followed in Nocona Cemetery under the direction of Jerry Woods Funeral Home.

Doyle was born on Dec. 3, 1923, in Nocona, to Tack and Nina Fowler Underwood. He was a supervisor for Grant Construction & Maintenance at Nocona Hospital. He was a veteran of WW II in the US Army. He was also a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Nocona. He married Janet Brannon on March 19, 1983 in Nocona.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Underwood of Iowa Park; children, LeAnne Baird of Iowa Park, Judy Morgan of Wichita Falls, Tonya Norman of Nocona, James Sidwell of Greenville, and Kenneth Sidwell of Muenster; sister, Doris Maxey of Wichita Falls, eight grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Doyle Wayne “Rabbit” Underwood; grandson, Chris Sidwell; siblings, Gertie, Lola, Reuben, Pat, Wilton “Ross” and Mary.

The family suggest memorial donations be made to Beyond Faith Hospice of Wichita Falls or University Park Rehabilitation and Health Care Activity Fund in Wichita Falls.
