Charles Henry Heugel

Charles Henry Heugel, 88, met his Savior on Thursday, September 30, 2021. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church of Wichita Falls with Pastor Dale Snyder officiating. Graveside services followed at the Highland Cemetery Pavilion in Iowa Park, Texas under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home.

Charlie was born to the late Carl and Gertrude Heugel on July 28, 1933, in Valley Falls, Kansas. Charlie was raised on a Kansas farm until enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1953. Charlie met the love of his life, Valerie, while stationed in England. They were married in London, England on June 23, 1956. Charlie proudly served his country for twenty years. After retiring, the family settled in Wichita Falls and he was one of the first hires at the newly opened PPG glass factory. He enjoyed the work and his co-workers for the next 22 years he was employed at PPG. After retiring from PPG in 1996, he took a part-time job at ORLC Sonshine Learning Center where the children lovingly referred to him as “Mr. Charlie”. You could often find Charlie at McDonalds for early morning coffee with friends or tinkering in his garage. Charles was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Wichita Falls, for over 40 years. Charlie served the church in many different positions.

Charles’ family believed there was nothing Dad / PaPa couldn’t fix and often stated “if dad can’t fix it, nobody can fix it.” He enjoyed planning and creating projects for his family and his family’s activities.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his stepmother, Lucille; his wife of 61 years, Valerie; and his brother, Glen. He is survived by his daughters: Linda and husband, Bruce Romoser; Julie and husband, Darrel Williams; and Gail and husband, Eddy Cannedy; nine grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.

If you wish to make a memorial, the family suggests Hospice of Wichita Falls or ORLC’s Comfort Dog (Elijah) Program.

Our dad never met a stranger and when thanked for his years of service he always responded with “I would gladly do it again”.
