Barney Jo Wynn

Barney Jo Wynn, 79, of Denton, TX passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2022. She was born in Holt, TX on July 3, 1942, to Barney Nevill Turner and Valeta Josephine Goodloe Turner. She graduated from Howard Payne College with a BS in elementary education.

She married Wilbert Dean Wynn on July 22, 1965, in Brownwood, TX. Mrs. Wynn started her twenty-seven-year teaching career in Paint Rock, TX. She continued to serve students in the communities of Bangs, Iowa Park, Electra and Clyde, as a fifth and sixth grade language arts teacher.

Barney Jo enjoyed genealogy, being a part of community groups, learning new things and being out in nature. She was a member of The Daughters of the Republic of Texas, The Daughters of the American Revolution and United Methodist Women. During the retirement years, she and husband Wilbert traveled through National Parks, historic sites and celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2015. Barney Jo loved being “Nana” to five grandchildren with brownies, crafts and a never-ending supply of cold drinks in the mini fridge.

A visitation will be held at the DeBerry Funeral Home on Friday, May 20, 2022, from 5:00-7:00 PM. Funeral services will take place at the Asbury United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 21, 2022, beginning at 1:00 p.m. She will be interred at Roselawn Memorial Park following the service.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Wynn Montcalm and husband Ryan of Denton, son, Dean Alan Wynn and wife Beth Ann of McKinney, brother Steve Turner of Wichita Falls and sister Pam Turner of Brownwood and grandchildren Abbie, Davis, Claire and Molly Wynn and Reese Montcalm. She was preceded in death by her husband Wilbert Dean Wynn, sister Sandy Verheek and her parents.

Memorials may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, The Methodist Children’s Home in Waco, and St. Labre Indian School.
