COVID-19 case numbers continue to decline in county

New COVID-19 cases continue to drop in Wichita County, with the Wichita Falls Wichita County Public Health District reporting 315 new cases as of last Friday, down from 434 cases the previos week.

Also 13 deaths from COVID-19 were reported for last week, down one from the week before.

This brings the number of positive cases in Wichita County since March of 2020 to 21,447; and the death count to 433.

Of the 13 deaths last week, two of them were in their 40’s; one in their 50’s; six in their 60’s; three in their 70’s; and one in their 90’s. Four of those individuals were vaccinated.

In order to be a vaccine breakthrough case for reporting purposes, the individual must be fully vaccinated. To date, of the 52,261 Wichita County residents who are fully vaccinated, there are 798, or 1.53 percent, who have contracted COVID-19 according to the WFWCHD.

With a 20 percent positivity rate for last week, the number of active cases in Wichita County reached 997 to end the week.

Of the new cases, 76 percent were unvaccinated.

Active cases in the Iowa Park zip code again dropped last week, to 72 active cases.

The Wichita Falls Wichita County Health District also reported that 938 people recovered from the Novel Coronavirus last week.

By Wednesday this week, the number of new cases reported since Friday stood at 150, with six new deaths reported. morning this week, 59 Wichita County residents are hospitalized for treatment of COVID-19, 26 of those in critical condition. As of Wednesday, 44% of the hospitalizations are in critical condition and of those in critical condition 53% are under the age of 60.

Iowa Park CISD re ported only one new case, a staff member at Kidwell Elementary, in the past week.

Booster vaccines

Pfizer COVID-19 boosters vaccines are now available at the Wichita Falls-Wichita County Public Health District for adults in certain groups.
