OPELOUSAS, LA - Richard “Scott” Davis of Opelousas, Louisiana, was received into our Heavenly Father’s arms July 19, 2021. A memorial service celebrating Scott’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2021, at Stonebriar Community Church, Frisco, Texas, with Toby Oaks and Anthony Levell officiating.

Scott was born December 10, 1968, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Richard and Pat (Henry) Davis. He graduated from Iowa Park High School, Iowa Park, Texas, and then attended Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas, where he met his wife Michelle (Ashcraft). They were married in August, 1989, and their first son Daxton Scott was born in Plainview in 1995. The two were involved in many organizations throughout their years at Wayland and also served as dorm parents. Scott received his Master of Education degree at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, and subsequently coached cross country and track and field at Wayland. In 1996, Scott, Michelle, and their son Daxton moved to Hastings, Nebraska, where Scott was the head track coach and teacher at Hastings College. He was heavily involved in their church there. While in Hastings, their son Devin and daughter Ellisyn were born. After 7 years of coaching/teaching there the family moved to Flower Mound, Texas, in 2003, where Scott taught and later became a school administrator at Coram Deo Academy. Scott quickly became involved in church and sports activities with his children. They later moved to Plano, Texas, where Scott and Michelle hosted a church community group, game nights, and kids’ activities in their home. He worked as an administrator for Responsive Education Solutions there until accepting the Head of School position at Westminster Christian Academy in the Lafayette, Louisiana, area in 2016, where he continued his involvement in church and coaching until the time of his death. Some of his hobbies included puzzles, games, and time with his family. Scott was an avid reader and encouraged and challenged others to read as well. In whichever role he played (husband, father, son, brother, educator, colleague, friend), Scott had a way of making others feel valued and respected.

Scott was known for his love for Jesus, his love for his family, and his love to educate/coach the next generation. He was a man of integrity, gentle demeanor, and an interesting sense of humor. Throughout Scott’s life he believed that God was to be found in every part of life. He believed that whatever you do, do it your best for the Lord. He poured his life into the next generation, from college students all the way to preschoolers. Although Scott will be missed by so many, he would want people to love the Lord and have a personal relationship with Him. He would also want others to lead a life of significance, and whatever you do, do it well.

Scott is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Michelle, his parents, Richard and Pat Davis of Iowa Park, his sister Karie Levell and her husband Anthony of Wichita Falls, son Daxton Davis and his wife Rachel of Fort Worth, son Devin Davis and daughter Ellisyn Davis of Opelousas, Louisiana, father-in-law Larry Ashcraft and sister-in-law Ronnie Arrington and her husband Joel. Scott was also blessed to have and is survived by the following nieces and nephews: Hannah Joy Harrison (David), Abigail Francis (Dan), Daniel Levell (Jordan), Caleb Levell (Holly), Hannah Arrington, Malachi Arrington (Jinny), Kestra Arrington, and Tyler Arrington.

One of Scott’s favorite Bible verses was “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26
