Norman Joe Mayes Sr.

Norman Joe Mayes, Sr. of Snyder, passed away Thursday, March 4.

Graveside services were held Monday, at Hillside Memorial Gardens in Snyder with Keith Hackfeld officiating.

Norman was born in Megargel, Oct. 7, 1934 to Joe Walter Mayes and Delma Ormeda Cockroft .

Norman was married to Patsy Marleen Dean on Sept. 17, 1954, in Wichita Falls. He and the family moved from Iowa Park, to Snyder, in 1970, where he assumed the role as the manager of Lone Star Gas Company. In 1975, he made a career change to the oilfield as Materials Coordinator/Purchasing Agent for General Crude Oil Co. After 25 years of service, Norman retired from Mobil Oil Company on Jan. 1, 1995.

He is preceded in death by two brothers, Donnie and Benny Mayes.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Patsy of Snyder; two sons, Norman Joe Mayes, Jr. (Buddy) of Midland, and David Mayes of Abilene; two daughters, Susie Teeters of Eunice, NM; and Sherry Bilderback of Snyder; one sister, Marcenia Cherry of Schertz; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
