Reporting changes for Wichita County COVID-19 cases

106 new cases in past week; 34 active cases in Iowa Park; 4 new cases in local schools

When Wichita County reached 1,600 total COVID-19 cases last Friday, The Wichita Falls-Wichita County Public Health District adjusted their daily reporting methods to the public and news outlets.

Previously, the health district reported new infection numbers by zip code daily, and they are now reporting those numbers on Friday only. They will continue to give daily reports of new infections in the county, hospitalizations, recovered and death counts, as well as the total number tested, those negative and those st pending.

As a result, the Iowa Park Leader will report total number of new Covid infections in the county up to the Tuesday before publication date as well as the total cases in Iowa Park reported the previous Friday. We will report those numbers on social media when they are received each Friday so interested readers can have local information as quickly as possible.

As of Tuesday evening a total of 106 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Wichita County, with three new deaths reported in the past week.

As of Friday evening, the health unit was reporting that the Iowa Park zip code had 34 cases, or 14 percent of those in the county.

Thursday, the death of case number 1,193, a hospitalized person who was 80+ years old. was reported.

Case number 1,144, age 60-69, passed Friday, and was hospitalized at their time of death. It was reported Tuesday that case 1,467, 70-79 years old, had passed in the hospital. Thus far, 22 people in Wichita County have succumbed to the novel Coronavirus.

The Iowa Park School District reported four new cases in the schools this week, three at Iowa Park High School and one at Bradford Elementary. Thursday, IPHS was notified by the health department of a student who had tested positive. School officials said the student had not been on campus since Sept. 15, and the case was classified as low risk.

Monday, IPHS was notified of two more positive students, and Bradford was notified of one. The health department said the two cases at the high school are unrelated, and neither student had attended school since Sept. 17. Both students were classified as low risk exposure. The Bradford student had not been on campus since Sept. 14, and was also classified as a low-risk exposure.

In the past week, the WFWCPU reported 95 additional recoveries from the virus.

As of Tuesday evening, a total of 21,360 Wichita County residents had been tested for COVID-19, with 1,662 of those positive. Of those, 1,383 have recovered. The number of tests pending is 184.

Eleven people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 are currently hospitalized, with three of those listed in critical condition. The latest information on hospitalizations released by the WFWC Public Health District include:
