Iowa Park schools report first student COVID-19 case
While new cases of positive COVID-19 numbers have flattened in Wichita County over the past seven days, Iowa Park schools reported their first case of a student testing positive Tuesday.
Steve Moody, Iowa Park CISD Superintendent confirmed the school district was notified Tuesday afternoon a W.F. George Middle School student had tested positive, and that parents and staff were notified immedicately both by email and through the school district’s Stay Alert program.
Moody said the case has been classified as a low risk exposure, and the school nurses are working very closely with the Wichita Falls-Wichita County Public Health Unit.
“I do feel at this time that this is an isolated case,” Moody said Wednesday morning. He also said the schools continue to santifize regularly, and additional disinfecting was done in the classrooms where the student was.
The Wichita Falls-Wichita County Public Health Unit reported 79 new cases of COVID-19 in Wichita County since last Tuesday, 18 of those from the Iowa Park zip code.
Covid also claimed another victim in Wichita County this week, identified as case 919. The WF-WCPHU reported that the patient, age 80+, passed Monday in the hospital. This brings the number of Covid-related deaths in Wichita County to 13.
The number of new positive cases brings the total number of active cases in the county to 209, with 124 recoveries reported in the past week. A total of 331 tests are pending.
Of the 18 new cases in Iowa Park, six are identified as Allred Unit inmates, as the prison unit carries the Iowa Park zip code.
Each Friday, the health unit releases a list of active cases by city, and Iowa Park was listed as having 36 active cases last week, 15 percent of those in the county.
The Wichita Clerk’s Office had an employee test positive for COVID-19, and have modified business hours, according to the following release from their office:

“The Wichita County Clerk’s Office located at 900 Seventh Street, Room 250 has been informed by the Wichita Falls – Wichita County Public Health District that an employee has tested positive for COVID-19. Based on the assessment, this is considered a “low risk” exposure to the public. The potential exposure to the public may have occurred during the week of August 17th through the 21st. Anyone who visited the County Clerk’s Office during this time period and begins experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 should contact the Wichita County Health District.
In coordination with the Health District, and in abundance of caution, the Wichita County Clerk’s Office has chosen to only close the office to walk-in customers until at least Tuesday, September 8th. However, the office will remain Open to the public by appointment and for assistance by telephone during this period.
We have conducted sanitization and will continue to regularly clean and sanitize the office for the safety of the employees and the limited public traffic. We want to assure the community that their health and safety are always of the utmost importance. We are diligently following all COVID-19 guidelines put in place by the CDC and Texas Health and Human Services regarding sanitation and health practices. Wichita County will continue to monitor the situation, while providing transparent and up-to-date information to the public.

The total number of confirmed Covid cases reported in Wichita County since March 18 is 1,242 with 1,020 of those recovered.
To date in Wichita County, a total of 17,668 residents have been tested with 16,095 of those results negative.
