Six new cases of COVID-19 in Wichita County
Even with six new positive cases of COVID-19 in Wichita County in the past week, the number of those still active is 19, all recovering at home as of Tuesday evening.
Wichita County had a 0-5 year old who tested positive this week, a first in the county.
The new cases brought the total number of cases reported in the county since March 18 to 82. Of those, 61 have recovered and two diagnosed with the virus died.
Of the 82 cases in the county, Iowa Park is home to 25 of those, although it is unknown how many of that number are active cases. Lou Kreidler, Director of Health for the Wichita Falls-Wichita County Public Health District, said her office does not have a report that would show the total number of active cases in each city each day. She said each positive case has a case manager which visits with them daily and monitors their situation.
Positive cases are quarantined for a minimum of 14 days, Kreidler said, but it can “and is often longer depending on the person and the situation.”
It is important to note, per the direction of Governor Abbott, all residents and staff at long term healthcare facilities will be tested for COVID-19. Due to this testing, Wichita County’s total testing numbers and pending testing numbers will see an increase.
As of Tuesday night, 3,475 people have been tested for COVID-19; with 3,173 tests returned negative and 220 still pending.
