Kate Wright, 80, passed away in Wichita Falls Saturday, April 25, following a 12-year battle with dementia.

Mary Katheryn Johnson was born in Iowa Park to Albert and Doris Good Johnson on July 27, 1939. She attended Iowa Park schools until she married Stanley Clinton Wright on August 22, 1955. They raised two daughters, Kathy and Kim, and delighted in their only grandson, Matthew. Kate was active in the Iowa Park church of Christ for her lifetime. She loved cooking for church events, organizing bereavement meals, and loved singing the hymns. She retired from the Wichita County Tax Office in 1998 after 24 years as an automobile licensing and titling clerk.
Growing up on the family farm on Johnson Road, Kate loved to cook and clean and visit her grandparents, R. L. and Minnie Good. She loved the farm but Kate was anxious to marry, raise a family, and be the best homemaker possible. Kate was born to be a mother and homemaker and loved to shop, cook and manage the family finances. She enjoyed spending time with family and treasured friends, sharing meals in their home or going out to eat, playing cards or dominoes, and traveling. Throughout her life she loved her country music, hymns, and Elvis Presley movies.
As the girls grew up and left home Kate looked for other ways to keep busy and to fulfill her lifelong hobby of people watching. She delivered phone books, Meals-on-Wheels, sold Luzier cosmetics, and hosted many Tupperware parties before working for the county. Kate never met a stranger, was naturally friendly and optimistic, and loved to laugh. She loved to shop at Walmart and compared Walmart inventory and merchandising from Iowa Park to Branson and Nashville and locations all along the way.
Kate especially loved her one and only grandson, Matthew. Even when she had stopped frying chicken on a regular basis she was always ready to fry one for him. She was always interested in what he was doing in school and loved to meet and ask about his friends. She would be proud to fully understand and experience his graduation from the Police Academy and his service as a Police Officer.
For 55 of their almost 65 years together Kate was the homemaker who cared for and supported Stanley. For the last 12 years Stanley has cared for and supported Kate, learning to cook, clean, do the laundry, pay the bills and manage the home.
Kate was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Doris Good Johnson; sister, Sue Johnson Dockman; grandparents, Albert and Matlida Johnson and R. L. and Minnie Good. She is survived by her husband of nearly 65 years, Stanley Wright; daughters, Kathy Wright-Chapman and her husband, Mike; Kim Denison and her partner, Roy Robertson; grandson Matthew Wright-Chapman; aunts, Martha Dennis, Jean Good, Arlene Johnson; niece, Suzanne Patterson Nerio, and a host of friends and extended family.
