Colleen Roberts

Rita “Colleen” Roberts, 87, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 8.

Funeral services were held Monday at Edgemere Church of Christ with Joe Williams and Dr. Stephen Johnson officiating. Private family burial followed at Rosemont Cemetery in Wichita Falls.

Colleen was born on Jan. 21, 1932, in Quanah, to Bessie Inez Holmes and Otto Thomas “Tater” Holmes. She married Ross O’Neal Roberts in 1955 and they were married 61 years before his death in 2017. She received her Master’s degree in Education from Midwestern State University after receiving her undergraduate degree in Education from the University of North Texas. She taught in the Wichita Falls and Iowa Park public school districts for 32 years ending her career as a junior high guidance counselor. She was a charter member of the Edgemere Church of Christ and taught children’s Bible classes there for many years. She also enjoyed her tenure as a member of the 23 Study Club in Iowa Park. She enjoyed music and was musically gifted playing piano by ear and entertained many civic groups in her younger days as an accordionist.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and sister, Joy Holmes.

Survivors include her three children, Kelly Roberts, Risa Hillard, and Kent Roberts; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family suggest memorial contributions be made to Edgemere Church of Christ Mission Fund, Hospice of Wichita Falls, or The House of Hope.
