Wichita County reports record COVID-19 cases
The Wichita Falls-Wichita County Public Health District reported a record 187 new active COVID-19 cases in the past week in Wichita County.
The previous high during a seven-day reporting period in the Iowa Park Leader was on July 9, when 149 Wichita County residents had tested positive.
In addition this week, the healt district reported another death due to the novel coronavirus; one Iowa Park student infection; and 94 recoveries in the county.
As of Friday evening, the health unit was reporting that the Iowa Park zip code had 41 active cases, or 15 percent of those in the county. Two of those were reported to be offenders at the Allred Prison Unit.
On Friday it was reported that Case 1,406, 50-59 years old, passed away in the hospital. This brings the death toll in Wichita County to 23 from COVID-19.
The Iowa Park School District was notified Wednesday, Sept. 23, that a student at Iowa Park High School tested positive for COVID-19, and was considered low risk exposure by the health unit.
As of Tuesday evening, a total of 22,553 Wichita County residents had been tested for COVID-19, with 1,839 of those positive. Of those, 1,477 have recovered. The number of tests pending is 353.
Ten people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 are currently hospitalized, with two of those listed in critical condition. The latest information on hospitalizations released by the WFWC Public Health District include:
