Three more COVID-19 deaths reported in county

COVID-19 claimed the lives of three more Wichita County residents this week as active case numbers continue to rise.

Monday, two people died in a Wichita County hospital. Case 271, ages 60-69, passed away while in critical care. Case 602, a resident at Sheridan Medical Lodge, also passed away. The Wichita Falls Wichita County Public Health District said both victims were hospitalized at the time of their death.

Tuesday it was reported that Case 416, an 80+ year old and a resident at Royal Estates Independent Living, died. The individual was hospitalized at the time of death.

Royal Estates Executive Director, Codie Monhollen said, “We express our deepest sympathy to the family and loved ones of the member of our community who passed away, as well as to the families of everyone who has been affected by this outbreak. We ask that everyone please respect the privacy of the individual and their family during this time. The health and safety of our residents and employees is our greatest priority, and we will continue working together to care for our residents, protect the safety of our team members, and protect the people in our community.”

The three deaths this week brings the total of deaths in the county attributed to COVID-19 to six.

Since last Tuesday, 113 new cases of the novel cornonavirus have been reported in Wichita County, bringing the number of active infections in the county to 518, up from 405 last week.

In the Iowa Park zip code, there have been a total of 57 positive COVID-19 since March 19. The Wichita Falls Wichita County Public Health District reported last Friday that Iowa Park had 25 active infections. The Iowa Park Leader requested weekly information closer to presstime, and were told those numbers were only run on Friday.

Lou Kreidler, Wichita County Health Director, said, “We are starting to see results from the fourth of July,” adding that symptoms on most positive cases develop six to eight days after infection. She noted that one person in the county who was quarantined showed no symptoms until day 13.

Kreidler was encouraged by county residents’ willingness to mask up in public spaces. “I’m seeing more and more individuals wearing masks than before,” Kreidler said, “The majority of individuals out there are wearing masks.” She encourages residents to wear masks even for get-togethers, especially if people are there who are not in your immediate family. Kreidler continued, “Un

Kreidler continued, “Understand we are in a pandemic. Wear a mask when you want to go somewhere. Weigh the risk before you go somewhere and see if it is one you’re ready to take.”

The total number of Covid cases reported in Wichita County since March 18 is 648, with 124 of those recovered. So far in Wichita County, a total of 12,748 residents have been tested with 11,416 of the results coming back negative. As of Wednesday morning, 684 tests were still pending.

The number of those hospitalized with the novel coronavirus was 20 Tuesday evening, with half of those in critical condition. The latest information on hospitalizations released by the WFWC Public Health District include:

Allred Unit

The Allred Unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice is located in the Iowa Park zip code. As of Wednesday morning, the TDCJ website listed four active employee cases at the unit, with two recovered. In addition, one inmate as recovered, and none in restriction or isolation.
