New COVID-19 cases sets record this week in county

Third death reported; Active cases now at 405; 26 total hospitalizations here

COVID-19 claimed its third victim in Wichita County over the weekend, while infection rates continue to rise at a rapid pace.

In the past week, the number of active COVID-19 cases in Wichita County is now 405, a significant increase from last week.

In addition, Wichita County hospitalizations due to COVID-19 more than tripled in a week.

The Wichita Falls-Wichita County Public Health District reported 149 new Covid cases since July 1; with 133 new cases reported the week before. The numbers across Wichita County, the state and the nation have steadily risen the past month.

The total number of Covid cases reported in Wichita County since March 18 is 512, with 104 of those recovered. Iowa Park residents account for 47 of those cases.

So far in Wichita County, a total of 11,673 residents have been tested with 10,205 of the results coming back negative. As of Wednesday morning, 956 tests were still pending.

The number of those hospitalized with the novel coronavirus rose to 26 by Tuesday. The latest information on hospitalizations released by the WFWC Public

The Allred Unit of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice is located in the Iowa Park zip code. As of Wednesday, the TDCJ website listed six active employee cases at the unit. In addition, they list three inmates in medical isolation 95 on medical restriction.
