Iowa Park has a third of COVID-19 cases in county

Two deaths from pandemic come this past week in Wichita County

The first two COVID-19 deaths were reported in Wichita Falls since last Wednesday.

The first individual was over the age of 70 and passed way Wednesday after being hospitalized locally since April 2, according to the Wichita County Health Unit. This individual had tested positive for COVID-19.

The second death occured Saturday, and the individual was 60-69 years old. After being hospitalized locally with symptoms on April 7, the individual was discharged in stable condition on April 14 where they continued to recover in isolation. According to the Wichita County Health Unit, a case manager had spoken with the individual every day and the individual had continued to see improvements in their symptoms before passing way unexpectedly.

“We offer our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the individuals,” said Wichita Falls -Wichita County Public Health Director Lou Kreidler. “The case count updates we provide are not just statistics and numbers these are our fellow comunity members and this is another difficult day for our community.”

Until this week, the Iowa Park Leader had been unable to gather information that specifically gives Iowa Park infection rates. However, Iowa Park City Manager Jerry Fleming released that information Wednesday.

According to Fleming, based on data provided by the Wichita Falls Wichita County Health District, in Iowa Park there have been 22 reported cases, and one death related to COVID-19. Iowa Park cases account for just over one-third of cases in the county.

“Wichita County has an estimated population of 132,000, so 130,250 (98.67%) Wichita County residents have not been tested,” Fleming said. “ This can be considered positive or negative depending on who you ask.”

The Wichita County Public Health Unit reminds local residents that now is the time to remian vigilant and continue to practice social distancing and stay home.

There has been some good news this week concerning coronavirus infections in Wichita County: as of presstime Wednesday this week, the Wichita County Health Unit had reported a total of 62 positive cases of Covid-19 in Wichita County, up only six from the 56 confirmed last week.

Of the 62 total confirmed positive cases in Wichita County, 22 are recovered. All 38 of the currently infected in the county are recovering at home at this time.

Of the 1,863 people tested thus far in Wichita County, 1,715 have returned as negative and 86 test results are still pending.

Case 57

The patient is between the ages of 40 - 49 and is currently in isolation at home recovering. The patient is a contact to a previous case.

Case 58

The patient is 40 - 49 and is currently at home in isolation recovering. This is a community spread case.

Case 59

The patient is 60 - 69 and is currently at home in isolation recovering. This is a close contact to a previous case.

Case 60

The patient is 40 - 49 and is currently at home in isolation recovering. This is a community spread case.

Case 61

The patient is between the ages of 70 - 79 and is currently in isolation at home recovering. This is a contact to a previous case.

Case 62

The patient is between the ages of 70 - 79 and is currently in isolation at home recovering. This is a close contact to a previous case.
