Gov. Abbott issues executive order for schools, restaurants bars and gyms
Texas Governor Greg Abbott today announced an executive order closing all schools, dine-in restaurants, bars and gyms across the state through April 3, although it could be extended. Takeout and delivery orders will be allowed for restaurants.
The Leader contacted Iowa Park restaurants this afternoon for their plans in the wake of the announcement. Following are what each local restaurant will be offering:
Harvey's - Drive-through and curbside service. Delivery will also be continued to be offered, and the restaurant is waiving their normal $2 delivery fee for the next two weeks.
Rafter J BBQ - Offering continued drive-through service; and will begin delivery Saturday, March 21, with a $2 delivery fee.
City Cafe - will offer take-out and curbside from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m.
Pizza Hut - Offering continued drive-through service, and delivery with the normal $3.49 delivery fee
Ken's Pizza - Curbside delivery, and regular delivery with the usual $2 delivery fee
Subway - Offering drive-through and curbside service
El Sancho's - Offering curbside pickup and are considering delivery options in the near future.
Highway Grill - Curbside service will be available; and beginning as soon as Monday, they will offer delivery for senior citizens with a $2 delivery fee.
The Iowa Park Friendly Door dining room will remain open, and are offering carry out to all clients. They are continuing the Meals on Wheels.
All restaurants are asking for advance call for orders, as well as patience as they work to serve customers in a different way. Abbott also approved the sale of individual alcoholic beverage drinks for carryout and delivery, and is limited to 2 drinks per meal.
All schools throughout the state are also closed through April 3.
In response, Iowa Park schools will begin offering free breakfasts and lunches to all children in the district, ages 1-18 beginning Monday.
Iowa Park student meal pickup will begin Monday, March 23, from 10 a.m. to noon at Kidwell Elementary (1200 N. 3rd St.) in the front circle drive.
Everyone is asked to please remain in their vehicle when picking up meals. Breakfast and lunch will be provided to any child ages 1-18 years in each vehicle, and federal guidelines require children to be present in the vehicle.
This will being offered to all families, not just those who qualify for free or reduced meals, during the IPCISD closure.
