Deaths, active cases of COVID-19 continue to decline

County reports 306 new active COVID-19 cases; 13 additional deaths

Declining numbers of both new COVID-19 infections and Covid-related deaths are being reported this week by the Wichita Falls-Wichita County Public Health District.

Newly-reported COVID-19 infections in Wichita County in the past week dropped again, to 306, in the past week, and 13 deaths were reported.

The Health District also reported 1,255 recoveries in the past week ending Tuesday evening.

Hospitalizations again dropped this week to 62 with 13 of those reported to be in critical condition.

Vaccinations

This week, the Health District was again the only entity to receive a shipment of vaccines in Wichita County, and they transferred those out to community partners to use. Wichita County Health Director Lou Kreidler said the vaccines were transferred out on the basis of how many they could vaccinate in a week, and were allocated to Electra Memorial Hospital, United Regional Physicians Group, Clinics of North Texas and the Community Healthcare Center. Those eligible on those provider’s waiting lists will hear from the provider if there is an available vaccine.

COVID-19 Vaccine Second Dose Clinic

Wichita Falls, Texas – The North Texas State Hospital will be hosting its second dose vaccination clinic this Saturday, February 6. The clinic is only for individuals who received their first dose at the North Texas State Hospital on Saturday, January 16. For individuals who received the first dose on January 16, their appointment time for the second dose is the exact same time as it was on January 16. The Health District will not call to schedule appointments. Individuals will need to bring their vaccination card to the clinic.

The Health District asks the public to please make sure you are available for your second dose vaccine. There will be no makeup days and appointment times are unable to be changed.

In Wichita County, 12,438 people have received their first dose of the COVID vaccine; and 3,070 have received their second dose.

Iowa Park CISD

Friday,W.F. George Middle School was notified that two students from that campus had tested positive for Covid-19; and Monday Iowa Park High School was notified a staff member had tested positive. All of the cases have been deemed low risk to the campus by the health district.

Deaths

Deaths stemming from the novel Coronavirus in Wichita County from January 27 - February 2 were recorded in the following age groups: 30-39 - two; 40-49 - one; 60-69 - eleven; 70- 79 - six; and 80-89 - nine. The total number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 in Wichita County now stands at 294.

Weekly overview

Each Friday the health district releases an overview of active cases in the county by zip code. Iowa Park last week had 164 active cases as of last Friday, which accounted for 10 percent of the active cases in the county. We report that information each Friday after it’s release on the Iowa Park Leader Facebook page. The same week tallied a total of 1,642 active cases, with a 10.38 percent positivity rate among those tested.

Thus far, a total of 81,773 Wichita County residents had been tested for COVID-19, with 14,037 of those positive since March 18, 2020. Of those, 12,412 have recovered. The number of tests pending Tuesday evening was 51, and the number of active cases in the county sits at 1,331.

Free Testing

Free drive-through testing is now being offered by WellHealth indefinitely in the parking lot of the MPEC Center in Wichita Falls. The hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
