COVID-19 cases remain steady in Wichita County

Of 107 new active cases reported in county this past week, 20 are from Iowa Park

The number of new positive cases of COVID-19 has remained steady with 107 new cases reported as of Tuesday evening this week by the Wichita Falls-Wichita County Public Health Unit. This brings the total number of active cases in the county to 255.

Of the 107 new cases, 20 of those are reported from the Iowa Park zip code in the past week, with five identified as Allred Unit inmates.

The health unit also reported 127 recoveries in the past week.

To date, 12 Wichita County residents have died as a result of the novel Coronavirus.

Since March 18, a total 111 total cases have been reported in Iowa Park, with 15 of those reporting as Allred inmates, as the prison is located in the Iowa Park zip code.

The Wichita Falls-Wichita County Health Unit reported on

Friday that Iowa Park has 40 active cases, and of those 15 are Allred inmates as there have been no recoveries reported to the health district by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for the unit since the pandemic began.

However, on the TDCJ website, the Allred Unit is reporting 18 active offenders and nine recovered offenders, and it has been confirmed with the county those numbers have not yet been updated with the health unit. The Allred Unit is also reporting 24 active cases of COVID-19 among employees at the unit and 11 employee recoveries; 1,238 inmates are under medical restriction and 20 are in medical isolation.

The total number of confirmed Covid cases reported in Wichita County since March 18 is 1,163 with 896 of those recovered.

To date in Wichita County, a total of 16,952 resi dents have been tested with 15,474 of those results negative. As of Wednesday morning, 315 tests were still pending.

The number of those hospitalized with confirmed cases of COVID-19 was 20 as of Tuesday evening, with three of those listed in critical condition. The latest information on hospitaliza-tions released by the WFWC Public Health District include:
