One Man's Ramblings
I posted a question over the weekend on our Facebook page, asking people what they were doing to beat the heat these days, and offer up some pictures if they were near water, somewhere cool like the mountains or Canada, or just offer a tidbit of information.
Usually when we post a question like this, like asking readers to share pictures of their snow days, we get barraged with responses.
Not so with this one, and the ones that did kept it local.
J.C. wrote “City pool regularly for sure! And then snow cones on the way home.”
Tim wrote “Getting the day started at 4 a.m. to get thru earlier.”
I’ve thought about the sluggishness in responses, and narrowed it down to the following:
A: The heat has numbed everyone, and good AC is top priority;
B: People are more concerned with runaway inflation and gas prices and aren’t thinking of much else;
C: Talking about this heat wave is less interesting than sharing a photo of smiling faces immersed in a winter wonderland; or
D: Everyone is on vacation, and responding to that post is the last thing on their mind.
I could go with any or all of them, to be honest. Heck, I’m fixing to take off for a few days of rest through the weekend, the first I’ve done in a few years.
However, I am headed even deeper into the heat, with Austin’s forecast calling for hotter temps than Wichita Falls, if you can believe it.
Plus, there’s the humidity, which will brighten my day and add some sheen to my skin.
Or I might just act like a vampire and wait until late at night to venture out from under the AC blanket.
It’s not normally what I’d do in Austin or anywhere else while on vacation, but I can adapt if necessary.
Earlier this week I went out to Hawk Fieldhouse to see how our young ones were doing at summer strength and conditioning.
It was impressive. I mean even at 9:30 in the morning things are starting to heat up, but the boys were running windsprints up and down the turf at Hawk Stadium. And the girls were bearing down on their workout in the weight room.
Of course, I spent the majority of my time in the air-conditioned weight room. Next week I will spend more time out on the field.
Keep it cool.
