Lanham chosen to head Hawk basketball

Iowa Park athletic director Aubrey Sims reported this week that Justin Lanham has been named as the new head boys basketball coach at Iowa Park High School, pending board approval tonight.

Ashlock, Coheley head local 6-4A All-District Basketball picks

Iowa Park senior Kaden Ashlock and junior Cirby Coheley were named to the 6-4A All-District Basketball Team’s First Team to lead the Hawks in voting by conference coaches.

Lady Hawks now ranked #3

Iowa Park’s Lady Hawk softball team continues to climb the TGCA state ranks, moving to third this past week after picking up five wins and just their second loss of the season to improve to 18-2.

Playing in the Graham Tournament Thursday, Iowa Park opened with a 9-1 win over Archer City, then fell 3-2 to Holliday with a last-minute walk-off.

Iowa Park scored three runs in the second and six more in the third to overwhelm Archer City, outhitting the Lady Wildcats 8-1.

Raylea Parsons earned the win, allowing one hit and one run over five innings with five strikeouts.

Hawks now ranked #5

Iowa Park’s fifth-ranked Hawk baseball team managed three wins this past week before games and practices were suspended by the UIL because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

With the three wins, the Hawks improved to 12-2 overall this season. They won two games in the rain-shortened Midlothian Heritage Tournament against Krum (9-6) and Lorena (3-0), then blanked Holliday 10-0 at home Saturday.

Keaton Dickens wins gold twice

Iowa Park senior Keaton Dickens brought home two individual gold medals and a silver team medal in the last two weeks from the Champions’ Golf Course in Wichita Falls.

Dickens topped a tough field of golfers in the Rider Raider Invitational on March 5 with a score of 74. He returned a week later to shoot a one-under par 69 for another first place in the Hirschi Invitational.

“Keaton is an outstanding golfer, and he has the scores to prove it,” said Coach Gary Green. “What I’m most excited about is the leadership he has shown to our youngeregolfers.”

Lady Hawks swamp tourney opponents

Iowa Park’s Lady Hawk softball team climbed several notches in the state polls to No.5 this week after going 5-0 in their own tournament this past week.
