Raymond J. “Jake” Henderson was an amazing husband, dad, papa/grandad, brother, uncle, friend and soldier. He was a simple man, a quiet man of few words, loyal, honorable, and a true hero in the eyes of his family.

He was born to James Wesley Henderson and Dora Allison Henderson on September 13, 1931. He had a large family made up of 4 brothers and 5 sisters. He joined the United States Army in March of 1950 where he proudly served his county for 21 years before retiring in July of 1971. The army took him to Kansas, Alaska, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Japan, Texas, Germany and two tours in Vietnam.

Ray used his smooth dancing skills to win over the love of his life, Maudie Pauline Henderson, who he married on August 9, 1957.  They have two daughters, Debbie Brandt and Betty Ward who they loved and cherished very much. After retiring from the military, he bought and ran a service station in Santa Anna, Texas until moving to Iowa Park, Texas in 1980 to be closer to family. Once in Iowa Park, Ray spent many years working at Parkway True Value before retiring for good in 1997.

He was a true outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and working in his yard that he always kept in immaculate condition. He also loved to travel, and he did so with his family from coast to coast. His favorite place to visit was the mountains and the horse races in Ruidoso, New Mexico. He also enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys play football and Tiger Woods play golf on TV along with the classic western movies he would watch repeatedly. He loved old county music, was an amazing dancer, loved to go out to eat with his family and loved watching his great grandsons play any kind of sports.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, James and Dora Henderson; wife, Maudie Henderson; brothers, John, Melvin and Arlis Henderson; sisters, Laura Jane Harris, Mable Davis, and Lavada Parks.

Surviving relatives include his daughters, Debbie Brandt and husband, George of Iowa Park, Texas and Betty Ward of Temple, Texas; brother, Paul Henderson and wife, Peggy of Gurley, Alabama; sisters, Wanda June Deppe of Lindale, Texas and Wilda Turner of Carthage, Texas; grandchildren, Amber Sales and husband, Clayton of Iowa Park, Texas, Ashley Anderson and husband, Jay of Iowa Park, Texas, Robert Vines and wife, Karen of Howell, Michigan, Renee Minshew and husband, Steve of Burnet, Texas; great grandchildren Carter Sales, Cohen Sales, Ava Anderson, Brandt Anderson, Stephanie Smothers and husband, John, Shelby Durst and husband, Derek, Megan Kozlowski and husband, Jessie, Bryson Vines and five great, great grandchildren.
