Plans still on for parade, lighting ceremony
(12/01/16)

By Sherrie Williams
Weather permitting the Iowa Park Volunteer Fire Department will have their annual Lighted Christmas parade starting downtown at 7 p.m. Saturday.
If the parade is rained out Santa will still arrive and the lighting ceremony will still be held at Tom Burnett Memorial Library where Santa will visit with children and refreshments will be served.

Parade
Parade line-up will start at 6:30 p.m. in front of W.F. George Middle School on East Cash St.
According to IPVFD Chief Andy Payne, if it is raining the parade will not be held.
However, weather will not stop Santa’s arrival. Santa will arrive in Iowa Park and be at Tom Burnett Memorial Library to visit with children.
The parade will travel west on Cash Street to North Yosemite, turn north on Yosemite, east on Park Street, make a u-turn and travel back west on Park Street to Pacific Street where it will head north to the Tom Burnett Memorial Library, then left on West Magnolia to first street and left into the field where parade participants can be picked up.
This year’s parade theme is “Christmas Stories.”
No fake Santa’s are allow as Santa will make his arrival by fire truck and other Santa’s in the parade might confuse children.
There is no charge to participate in the parade, but donations and new toys for the fire department’s Kidz Christmas program will be accepted.
For more information or to sign up for the parade contact Lewis Skinner at 940-867-9655 or Tristin Dozier at 940-733-0140.

Santa and Library Lighting
Following the Iowa Park Volunteer Fire Department’s Lighted Christmas Parade the Light Up Christmas ceremony will be held at Tom Burnett Memorial Library and Santa will be available to visit with children.
The Iowa Park High School MGM band students will play at the library, following the parade.
For more information about Christmas activities at the library contact Amie at 940-592- 4981.

Nativity Scenes
Christ the King Catholic Church will hold their annual Nativity Scenes display from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and again on Sunday.
There will be a variety of Nativity Scenes available for viewing and refreshments will also be available for viewers.
There is no charge, but donations will be accepted.

Kidz Christmas Fundraiser
Also, Iowa Park Volunteer Firefights will be collecting donations for the Kidz Christmas program at the intersections of Yosemite and West Highway and Johnson Road and West Highway.
