Council rescinds salary increases
for department heads during called meeting

by Dolores Hamilton
Meeting in special session Monday night, the Iowa Park City Council voted to rescind the salary increase for department heads, required by the Fair Labor Standards Act, that was to go into effect on Dec. 1.
The department heads will continue to receive the two percent increase in salary across the board for all city employees.
At their Nov. 14 meeting, the council agreed to increase the pay of all four full-time department heads by a flat amount of $1,924.
Recently U.S. District Judge Amos L. Mazzant III entered a nationwide injunction to stop the implementation of the U.S. Department of Labor Fair Labor Standards Act.
“Since it’s no longer a federal mandate, we can cross that bridge when we get to it,” said Councilman Keith Dyer.”If it becomes a mandate, the council can bring it back to be reconsidered.”
