Iowa Park High School Athletic Director Aubrey Sims has had his hands full these past weeks, attempting to fill seven coaching vacancies.
Of the seven vacancies, Sims has managed to fill three to date, and is interviewing candidates for the remaining positions.
Those hired so far include Billy Perkins as head girls basketball coach and girls athletics coordinator; Jeremy Kirk for junior high football and high school baseball (replacing Bernie Pawloski); and Casey Jordan as assistant volleyball and softball coach (replacing Brianne Rusk).
Vacancies that remain include head volleyball and girls high school track (to replace Brenda Hodges); assistant football, basketball and baseball (to replace Justin Swenson); assistant football, basketball and baseball (to replace Landry Martinez); and junior high volleyball, basketball and track (to replace Carol Newton).
Perkins has been the Girls Athletic Director and head girls basketball, softball tennis and track coach at Childress High School since 2008. In basketball, Perkins coached his teams to a 146-88 overall record, with the Lady Bobcats advancing to the state playoff the last six consecutive years, including a regional semifinal berth in 2013.
Prior to his stint at Childress, Perkins coached at Rio Vista, Sull Ross State University, Henrietta Midway, Marfa, and Childress.
He received his Bachelors of Science, Secondary Kinesiology and Minor in Spanish at West Texas A&M University, Masters of Physical Education and Masters of Educational Administration from Sull Ross State University.
