Hawks head to state powerlifting meet

Four Hawk lifters will travel to Abilene Saturday to compete in the THSPA State Powerlifting Championships in the Taylor County Expo Center.
The doors to the expo center will open at 7:30 a.m., with bars loaded at 8:45 to start the three-event meet (squat, bench press and deadlift). All tickets are $5
Coach Mark Zimmer’s team will consist of three regional champions – Ryan Thomas (123 class), Dalton Adkins (132 class) and Dre Gresham (181 class). Nick Kiser also earned the trip to state as alternate in the 114 class, finishing third at the regional meet in Chico.
Thomas set the Region 6 Division 1 record for the bench press at 250 pounds, and was named Outstanding Lifter at regionals in the deadlift with a 430-pound result. He will compete in Flight 2 Saturday on Platform 6.
Adkins totalled 1,080 pounds to win the 132 class at Chico, and Gresham totalled 1,255 pounds to win the 181 class. Adkins will compete Saturday in Flight 1 on Platform 6. Gresham will be in Flight 1 on Platform 7.
The Hawks finished second behind Kennedale, and the two teams will be viewed as two of the top entries Saturday in Abilene.
